Consultation (1-2 appointments)
We will discuss your cosmetic goals, check your oral health is up to scratch to begin cosmetic treatment and gather all the information needed to design a smile that is harmonious with your face. This may include xrays, 3D scans and photographs.
A second consult is usually needed to finalise your plan and make sure we are on the same page – this consult is usually free. We discuss how your newly planned smile will fit with your face, lip position and gum position. Often we will do a ‘mock up’ which is a temporary way to see your planned smile in real life. Sometimes other treatments such as gum contouring, orthodontics and pre-whitening are combined to achieve the best result.
Treatment (2 appointments)
First appointment may be 2-4 hours long to allow preparation of your teeth where a small amount of enamel is removed. We will then select the ideal tooth shades needed for the custom veneers, take photos and create temporary veneers if needed.
Second appointment is typically 1.5 hours to bond the final custom veneers. Wearing a night guard is usually a MUST to protect them from chipping or breaking.
Veneers are best for patients who want to improve the overall look and uniformity of their smile. If you have chips or cracks, mismatched or misshapen teeth, or significant staining, veneers can help.
At Mersey Dental we strive to practice ethically and don’t believe that one treatment is suitable for everyone. Porcelain veneers can look beautiful and natural but have some limitations. This treatment is more likely to be successful if you;
- Have enough tooth enamel
- Don’t require extreme corrections in shape and colour of your existing teeth
- Can avoid harmful habits such as chewing on nails, hard foods, and pens (these actions can damage porcelain veneers)
- Don’t grind your teeth heavily
- Have good overall oral health, especially with your gums
Unfortunately, veneers are not able to be predictably repaired and usually require replacement if they chip. If this has happened unexpectedly soon and despite taking care as advised, we will likely replace it at no cost or a nominal fee, depending on circumstance.
No, on treatment day we use a computer controlled local anaesthetic delivery system to keep you comfortable. You may experience some minor sensitivity between appointments, while you await your final custom veneers and for 1-2 weeks after treatment is finished.
